Materials Used: Size 10 ˝ or 11
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn (Doubled throughout)

Stitch markers
Handles of your choice
Finished Dimensions: approx 14” long by 12” wide and 3 ˝” deep
Notes: Bag can be made with a single color, 2
colors, or as many colors as you’d like
Depth is determined by how many stockinette rows are done after stitches are picked up from
side one edge
Gauge will
determine size of finished bag
Yarn is held double
throughout project

Knit Grocery Bag
Instructions
Cast on 43 stitches, place
marker, cast on 34 stitches, place marker, cast on 43 stitches
For 2 color
bag knit row 1 & 4 in one color and rows 2 & 3 in another color
Row 1 (WS) Knit entire row
Row 2 (RS) Knit to 2
stitches before marker, ssk, move marker, k2tog
Knit to 2 stitches before
marker, ssk, move marker, k2tog
Knit to the end of the row
Row 3 (WS) Purl
Row 4 (RS) Repeat Row 2
Continue in this manner
for side one of the bag until only 4 stitches remain between the markers
Using 3 needle bind-off-
bind off center stitches to close center of bag
Depth of bag- Using outside edge of side 1-pick up 43
stitches, place marker, pick up 34 stitches, place marker, pick up 43 stitches
Work in Stockinette Stitch for desired depth of bag
Beginning side 2- When
desired depth is obtained, start row 1 of pattern on a wrong side row- Repeat
and cast off as for side one.
Top Edge- You may be happy
to leave the top edge alone or you have several choices
Singe crochet 2 rows around edge
Pick up and knit 3 rows of garter
stitch
Pick up and work in reverse stockinette to get a rolled edge
Use whatever handles you’d
like and take it on your next trip to the grocery store to avoid using plastic
or paper bags!
